At PrimeSourceOPC, we want to help you make your products the best they can be, and that includes the packaging. In fact, packaging plays a critical role in any product’s success, as customers tend to conflate the quality of the package to the quality of the contents inside. One concern that many customers have about product packaging is how easy or difficult it would be to tamper with it–people fear the possibility of their items, especially their food or medicine, being interfered with and sabotaged without their knowledge. Fortunately, our team is here to provide tamper-evident labels to help you instill your customer base with confidence in your product. In this article, we’ll go over how tamper-evident labels work to help you decide if they are right for you.

How Tamper-Evident Labels Work

There are a number of different ways to make tampering evident on the label and packaging. Some of the most common and effective methods include:

  • Hidden Print Layers – In this type of tamper-evident labeling, the label itself includes a hidden print layer that leaves behind a clear warning that the package has been opened, often taking the form of text reading VOID or TAMPER EVIDENT.
  • Special Printing – Other tamper-evident labels use printing that is impossible to realign properly after the package has been opened. If anyone does open the package before purchasing, your customers will be able to tell that tampering took place by the misaligned text.
  • Security Slit Die Cuts and Perforations – A third kind of tamper-proof labeling uses specially designed security slit die cuts and\or perforations that make it difficult or impossible to remove the label or packaging tape in one piece. Customers will be able to tell that a package was opened by looking at the remnants of the label that didn’t come away cleanly.
