We at PrimeSourceOPC have extensive experience in working with labels. Our team creates and prints custom labels for a wide range of products, including food, beverages, tobacco products, chemicals, and more. In our experience, many people underestimate the importance of labels; they are not just a matter of convenience, but of workplace safety.
Accurate labeling is especially important for things like food ingredients and chemical products. In fact, labels are so important in chemical manufacturing, shipping, and storage that chemical drums are required to be identified with specialized durable labels. Keep reading to learn about what makes durable labels ideal for this purpose.
- Label Materials – The first thing which sets durable labels apart is their material composition. Durable labels (also called drum labels) are not made of paper, which will degrade over time, but instead made of polypropylene, polyethylene, polyester, vinyl, or nylon. Unlike paper, these materials are resistant to scratches, tears, and weather damage.
- Adhesive Materials – Durable labels are also applied to their chemical drums or containers using an extremely strong adhesive, much stronger than the adhesives used for other types of packaging. This ensures the label will not fall off the drum.
- Label Contents – The final thing which sets durable labels apart from other types of labels is the information they display. OSHA requires all drum labels to contain a product identifier, hazard pictograms, hazard warning words, precautionary statements about the safe storage, handling, and disposal of the contents, and finally the contact information for the manufacturer or supplier.
